Bui Resettlement Township Health Center Opens

The Bui Power Authority in 2012 constructed a health facility at the Resettlement Township to serve the health needs of the residents of the resettlement township and the public at large. Upon completion of the health center, BPA handed-over the health facility together with the operation, maintenance and upkeep of it to the Tain District Health Directorate, Tain District.

The traditional authorities and residents at the Resettlement Township working in concert with the Tain District Directorate have managed to furnish, equip and staff the health facility.

On January 22, 2014, the Tain/Banda District Directorate of Health of the Banda District Assembly performed a symbolic ceremony to mark the commencement of operations of the health center. The health facility will function under the name Bui Community Health and Planning Services (Bui CHPS) with four nurses and a midwife.

The Banda District Health Director, Dr. Michael Rockson Adjei, applauded the BPA Resettlement Township for raising funds to enable the Bui CHPS to become operational. He noted that this self-help initiative will go a long way to improve the health of the people in the community and surrounding areas.  He therefore appealed for assistance in terms of motor cycles for health outreach services, a computer and an ambulance.

The Banda District Chief Executive, Hon. Alexander Bonsu, called on the people living in the communities to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme in order to access the Bui CHPS free of charge whenever they fall sick.

“I would like to appeal to our nurses and workers to take good care of the facility so as to prolong its life span”, he remarked.  He pledged to get the Bui CHPS two motor cycles from the Assembly’s Common Fund.

The BPA Acting External and Community Relations Manager, Mr. Wumbilla Salifu, who represented the Chief Executive of BPA, applauded the good collaboration among BPA, the District Assembly and the traditional authorities that had led to the successful commencement of operation of the health facility. He used the opportunity to re-state that the operations, maintenance and upkeep of the Bui CHPS was the sole responsibility of the District Health Directorate of the Banda District.

The Chairman for the occasion, Nana Kwadwo Wuo II, the Chief of Bui, thanked the Bui Power Authority for the CHPS building and all stakeholders who contributed to the commencement of its operations.

A youth group in the Bui community, Atintoola Fan Club, donated a wheel chair, a fridge and stabilizer to the Bui CHPS to aid in its operations.

Also present at the function were the MP for Banda Constituency, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, representatives of the main Contractor of the Bui Dam, Sinohydro, the Chiefs and People of the resettled communities and pupils of the BPA Resettlement Township schools.
